A few years ago, I started to feel that God was asking me to minister to women in the Hamilton County Jail. As the prompting grew stronger and more persistent, it dawned on me that if God wants me in the jail, He can get me there one way or another. I decided to go willingly and I’m so glad I did! If you have ever considered getting involved in jail ministry, please take a moment to watch my testimony.

Every week in jail ministry, I encourage the women we meet that once they finish their time and have been “off paper” for a year, they could even come back and minister with us. There are several ladies on our team who have themselves been incarcerated and the connection and impact they have is amazing. (more…)

There are probably a lot of people on this earth who will claim to have the best grandma in the world, but my cousins and I will make the claim with just a little more confidence than the rest, because we know we did. My grandma Elsie was the kind of grandmother every single child should be so fortunate to have. (more…)

Last night, we studied the story of the hemorrhaging woman who was healed when she merely touched the hem of Jesus’ garment. It’s a story I’ve heard so many times and one I’ve always loved, but I read it with new eyes this week as I prepared to discuss it with our group. After our study, as I slipped off to sleep, I couldn’t help but ponder the story and what I can learn from it. (more…)

I want to wish a VERY happy birthday to my amazing dad, David Chew. He is an accomplished pianist, gifted singer, talented craftsman, and obviously, a great father. I mean, just look at me, Emily Chew, and Aaron Chew as exhibit A, B, and C. He is a loving husband to Nancy and the best grandpa a group of grandkids could ask for? (more…)

I’m sitting in a doctor’s office waiting room. Next to me, a woman is helping an elderly patient (presumably her mother) fill out the paper work.
In the couple of minutes I’ve been here, I’ve listened to this (a summary):
Daughter: Primary care physician?
Mother: WHAT?
Daughter: (LOUDER) PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN?
Daughter: Last tetanus shot?
Mother: WHAT?
Daughter: LAST TETANUS SHOT?
This carried on for several minutes, page by page. Then, I heard, “Is patient hard of hearing?”
Mother: WHAT?
Daughter: NEVERMIND.
That’s when I lost it. I’m not even sorry.
