This morning, I found myself with an extra 30 minutes between my chiropractic adjustment & when I needed to be at the office AND a Starbucks gift card…what to do? What a perfect opportunity to do my morning devotions over a nice hot cup of coffee instead of in the car in the parking lot at work!
So, I stopped at Starbucks on my way to the office, WALKED IN, because drive-thrus are evil (see my Drive-Thru Manifesto,) and ordered my Skinny Vanilla Latte with an extra shot. While I waited for my name to be called, found a table in the sunlight, perfect for basking in God’s glory.
I retrieved the travel-sized bottle of Listerine from my purse, carefully moistened a napkin, and proceeded to wipe down the surface of the table and chairs, paying extra attention to the spot where I would place my purse. My coffee wasn’t ready yet, so I went ahead & soaked another napkin with Listerine and wiped down my cell phone & the outside of my purse. I put the bottle of Listerine back in my purse, grabbed the Purell and gave my hands a good germ-fighting rub-down.
When I heard my name, I fetched my coffee, personalized with my name, “Straycee,” opened my Bible and devotion book, & began reading.
It was at that point I noticed the woman at a nearby table staring at me with a bewildered look on her face. Honestly, she was freaking me out a little bit as the duration of her gaze definitely extended well beyond what is considered normal and polite.
Good grief! It was like she’d never seen a woman reading a Bible in a coffee shop before!
