This was it — my first official “stand-up” gig. I’ve felt the calling and the desire to do this for years now, but telling someone, “I want to be a stand-up comic,” felt about like saying, “I want to be an astronaut,” and slightly less likely.
But I promised God that, after years of dragging my feet and ignoring Him, 2018 would be the year I take that leap of faith. On Saturday, January 5, 2018, I made some very concrete moves in that direction, then on January 7, Pastor Tim Garner called and asked me if I would do, “20 minutes of stand-up for a ministry event.”
I hadn’t told ANYONE that is what I wanted to do. I had used nebulous terms like, “speaking ministry,” and, “public speaking with a humorous twist.” So why did he call me? I didn’t know and for the time, I asked no questions.
I just said, “YES.”
I said yes to Tim Garner and I said yes to God. I’m building an ark and trusting God to bring the rain.
If you enjoy this, please share it. If you know of a group, organization, or ministry who might like to invite me to come, please feel free to pass on my contact information.
And if you don’t enjoy it, remember, it was my first time! And maybe it’s just that you didn’t get the jokes.
